Bringing Thai or foreign currency into or out of the Kingdom

You can bring foreign currency into Thailand without limits, but amounts exceeding USD 20,000 (or equivalent) must be declared to Customs upon arrival. For Thai Baht, you can bring up to 500,000 THB into the country without prior authorization. Failure to declare amounts over these limits is a criminal offense.

Key Considerations for Cash Currency Entry:

Proof of Funds (Immigration):

Tourists may be required to show proof of funds of at least 20,000 THB per person (or 40,000 THB per family) in cash or equivalent, especially if asked by immigration officials.

Declaration Limit:

Anything over USD 20,000 (or equivalent in other foreign currencies) must be declared.

Thai Baht Limit:

You can bring a total of up to 500,000 THB into Thailand.

Consequences:

Failure to declare, or making a false declaration, can lead to the seizure of cash and criminal charges.

It is also recommended to carry some cash, as it is widely used in Thailand, even if you are using cards for larger purchases.

Any person who brings or takes an aggregate amount of foreign currency exceeding USD20,000 or its equivalent out of or into Thailand shall declare such amount of foreign currency to a Customs Officer.

Failure to declare upon bringing currency that exceeds the amount restricted by law or its equivalent out of or into Thailand or making any false declaration to a Customs Officer is a criminal offence.

For Thai currency (Baht), any person can bring total amount not exceed THB500,000 to any Thailand’s bounded countries and not exceed THB50,000 to any destination countries.

More than that mentioned amount, you have to declare to a Customs Officer or exchange to others currency before departing from Thailand.
